Sérgio Avelleda is an urban mobility expert in Brazil with 30+ years of experience in public transport. He served as Secretary of Mobility and Transport for São Paulo, overseeing the world’s largest bus network and Vision Zero strategy. He was President of both the São Paulo Metro and CPTM, managing multi-line expansions and major PPP projects. He later directed Urban Mobility at WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities in Washington. An attorney with an Executive MBA from Insper, he is also coordinator at Insper’s Urban Mobility Lab and co-founder of Urucuia consultancy. He authored a book on mobility (“Nas trincheiras da mobilidade”) and contributed to the Brazilian E‑Mobility Guide. He champions innovations in public transport—like e-buses, apps, and active mobility as bicycle integration. He continues to influence policy and funding, advocating for sustainability and equity in urban mobility across Brazil.
