Seamus MURPHY

Executive Director
Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA)
United States

Seamus Murphy is the Executive Director of San Francisco Bay Ferry, which operates the Bay Area’s principal water-based public transit system.

Prior to joining WETA, Murphy spent a decade overseeing external affairs for Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transit District, where he led efforts to build support and secure funding for transformative projects including the $2.5 billion Caltrain Electrification Program.

He was also responsible for passing state legislation that paved the way for voter-approved revenue measures that continue to invest over $200 million/year in transportation improvements and services throughout the San Francisco Peninsula.

In his current role, Murphy led the reinvention of SF Bay Ferry service – a plan that has made the system a regional leader in post-pandemic ridership recovery. He is also focused on decarbonizing the service. Under his direction, SF Bay Ferry is poised to operate the first zero-emission ferry network in the US.
