Pascal Smet is a lawyer and an experienced politician for Vooruit. His career began in the 1990s in the field of migration, including as Belgian Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons. He also held leading positions within Belgian migration policy and represented Belgium internationally in asylum and migration consultations. He then spent 20 years as a regional Minister (Flanders and Brussels), responsible for mobility, education, urban development, culture, youth, international relations, emergency aid and equal opportunities. He was politically responsible for the MIVB, the public transport operator in Brussels, for 10 years and is the architect of Brussels' urban renewal. He is currently group leader of Vooruit in the Brussels Parliament, PES coordinator of the COTER committee of the European Committee of the Regions and international Secretary of Vooruit. His career reflects an enduring commitment to urban development, mobility, social justice and international cooperation.
