Maria Albuquerque, was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1983. Graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (FEUP) in 2006 and completed a Master’s at FEUP with a focus on mobility planning and urban regeneration. Since May 2022, has been Vice-President of CARRIS - Companhia Carris de Ferro de Lisboa, overseeing operations, bus and tram management, innovation, environment, and safety. She is also on the board of Carrisbus, responsible for CARRIS vehicle maintenance.

In 2023, became Chair of the BUS Division of UITP, the International Association of Public Transport. Previously, Maria worked in transport research and consultancy, optimizing urban transport systems, particularly bus and metro networks in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. She also contributed to the Portuguese government’s efforts in city management and European Funds for sustainable urban development, actively participating in the European funding programming for urban development and rehabilitation.
