Discover Hamburg’s new and walkable city centre

  • Technical Visits

The visit will showcase the structural redesign of Hamburg’s city centre to accelerate the switch to sustainable mobility and further improve the quality of time spent in the city centre. Hamburg’s strategic approach aims to create more attractive spaces for pedestrians, improve accessibility, and reduce the amount of parking and traffic in the city centre.

Participants can expect a guided walking tour through the city centre to discover how new road infrastructure can facilitate city development. Stops at central places that highlight Hamburg’s mobility transition, presenting the example of the nearly completed renovation of the new Jungfernstieg, one of Hamburg’s most iconic places on the banks of the inner-city lake Alster.

Good info to know: Many stakeholders were involved in the redesigning of Hamburg’s city centre in order to ensure acceptance of the changes made. Three different construction phases lead to its current state.
