Cars driving autonomously at regular speeds in normal traffic - this has already become reality in the Rhine-Main region with KIRA ("AI-based regular operation of autonomous on-demand transport"). The initiators of the project are the Rhein Main Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and Deutsche Bahn (DB). The Project receives fundings from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and the State of Hesse.

Product description

The R&D project KIRA has launched the first German Level 4 service in parts of Darmstadt and the district of Offenbach. The project tests the readiness of Level 4 technology for public transportation with six autonomous vehicles, primarily in both rural and urban areas. The deployed vehicles are Nio ES 8 with retrofitted AD stack from Mobileye. Further, the necessary operational and customer processes are being developed and tested as part of the project.
