The "Hanseatic Wireless Innovation Competence Center (HAWICC)" at HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) carries out inter- and transdisciplinary projects ranging from basic research to application-orientated research and development. The focus is on the built environment of mobility, i.e. the built infrastructure, in interaction with wireless technologies and with the inclusion of AI. The “Deutsche Zentrum Mobilität der Zukunft” (DZM) is represented at the HAWICC with two projects. Together with Annaberg-Buchholz, Karlsruhe and Minden, Hamburg is one of four nationwide locations of the DZM, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV).

Product description

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Müller-Lietzkow the HAWICC is developing innovative sensor technology and AI-based analysis methods, as well as 6G connectivity, for the mobility infrastructure of the future. Within the DZM framework, two projects are underway: 'Smart Building Systems through Recombination of Materials' (SBMuW) and 'Next Generation City Networking' (NGCN). The latter project focuses on the time-based city concept. The HCU and the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) are collaborating across disciplines within these projects. Practical partners from industry and civil society are also involved, including the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), BREUER Nachrichtentechnik GmbH, and the Björn Steiger Foundation.
