Second S-Bahn main line in Munich

Urban space and public transport infrastructure

The S-Bahn in Munich has been designed for 200,000 passengers per day about 50 years ago. Today, up to 840,000 people use the network every day. In order to be prepared for the future, Deutsche Bahn and the Free State of Bavaria are building a second tunnel on the main line. For the customers this means faster, more punctual and also climate-friendly connections to Munich city center and the airport. The second main line is due to go into operation between 2035 and 2037.
