The anatomy of BRT as a mode – Future eBRT Cities User Group Meeting

  • Side Event

The event will bring together international experts and stakeholders to delve into the latest trends in Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). This session aims to generate awareness of the eBRT2030 project within the UITP community. The two sessions will discuss key BRT topics in an international context facilitated by UITP presenting international case studies of BRT system worldwide and with a discussion on the different elements that characterise BRT.

The EU-funded eBRT2030 project (European Bus Rapid Transit of 2030: electrified, automated, connected), coordinated by UITP, is a major milestone in electric mobility, aiming to support sustainable urban transport by developing innovative solutions for electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

As part of this initiative, the User Group ‘Future eBRT Cities’ seeks to foster engagement among key stakeholders across Europe and beyond, ensuring the widespread adoption of the project’s concepts and results. This session will provide a thoughtful conversation on the future of BRT systems, shaping the eBRT Concept for 2030.

The event will be structured into two parts:

Session 1: Unfolding the Specifics of BRTs in Cities
This session will provide firsthand insights from city leaders who have implemented BRT systems, highlighting their challenges, strengths, and unique approaches. Experts from Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Braga, Nairobi, and Mexico will share their experiences in designing and operating BRT networks, offering valuable lessons for future implementations.

Session 2: BRT as a Mode – Building a Shared Concept
This expert-led discussion will focus on defining the core principles of BRT, including minimum requirements, key considerations in design, planning, and operations, and the technical aspects that shape successful BRT systems within a Bus / Public Transport network.
